Mahteh Ceramic

Mahteh Ceramics Ubud Bali

Tucked away in the Jungle of Ubud, Bali, is Mahteh Ceramic, a hidden gem that will make the hearts of ceramic lovers beat a little bit faster. A true oasis dedicated to creativity and sharing, Mahteh is the culmination of a life long love affair with clay and the deep desire to share the skills of ceramic making with others. Swiss-Argentinian couple Séline Kocher and Marco Turin decided to move to Bali to make this dream a reality.

“I have been making ceramics since I am a kid and I have during all these years, learned from different ceramicists from all around the world. I also spent 5 months in a ceramic school in Paris to focus on throwing techniques. The tipping point happened in 2017 when I came to Bali to do an internship at Gaya Ceramic Art Center in Ubud, Bali. Since then I have been dreaming of opening a place dedicated to ceramic and creativity, where people share their love for clay.”

Upon entering the traditional Balinese family compound that holds various small Villas as well as Mahteh, I find myself engulfed by the lush surroundings: Large shady trees and tropical plants frame the picture perfect Alang-Alang covered ceramic school. In the distance, rice farmers are working in the fields, birds are chirping and the gentle breeze is keeping everyone cool.

Mahteh currently offers group classes, private classes and open studio sessions for those with pottery experience.
