Sidemen
Sidemen has long been dubbed as the next Ubud, mostly because the sleepy village in the East of Bali is perhaps what Ubud used to be like 50 years ago. Acres upon acres of rice fields, stretching as far as the eye can see in a valley that is guarded by the mighty Mount Agung. Whilst in recent years, Sidemen has seen a steady increase in new accomodation options including two five star resorts and a very Instagram friendly, day club style restaurant, the town is still not quite ready to be considered as a base by expats. And that’s probably a good thing.
Having visited a few times over the years, small changes are definitely noticable, but nothing too dramatic seems to be on the horizon for now. Sidemen is still primarily a nature lovers’ paradise and ideal for honeymooners or solo travellers seeking tranquility and slow days. Other than silver making classes, rice field trekking and the odd occasional spa, there is not much to do in Sidement, which is exactly why it is so special.
